On the Nature of Being

"Dreamer, what would satiate your soul? If it were heralded unto you the understanding of the mechanisations that dominated this universe, the means by which cosmic entropy obeys and the great purpose of it all- would you be happy then? Is omniscience your ultimate goal?"

No, ultimate knowledge is but a step in my journey. After attaining complete understanding I will have to meditate on it all, mull it over a few times and give it a lot of thought.

Do you think any conclusion you ultimately reach would please you? Your species, do you not realise a pattern? You formulate, you experience and then you seek to forget. You complain about sentience, wishing to be incognizant of it all. Comprehension is suffering you say- and yet you set out in this grand endeavour?

Of course, for it were granted onto me this ability, then I should very well make the most of it as I please. You should know our sustenance is meaning and our searching will not cease.

What if there is no meaning, no purpose? Will you descend into madness? Are you aware the journey is not by any means a bed of roses?

I've learnt very early in my life that fear of the unknown is foolish, a mere limiter in our capabilities. If there ultimately is no grand purpose, then optimistic nihilism would serve me well, would it not? It would be liberating- I'd craft out my own destiny. Nothing would be telegraphed and nothing would be predestined. If I exist to suffer, then I shall suffer beautifully. If all that awaits beyond is but oblivion, then I shall make the most of my time cognizant and sentient. If only eternity awaits, then... then -

Ambition has been your beginning, and ambition has been your downfall. You will run until ambition runs dry- and ultimately, what then? Time dictates you keep moving forward. There is no reprieve nor recourse in its fierce flow, if all but eternity awaits then you will continue to be its slave forevermore. Foolish mortal cannot you see, that which satiates you can never be. Men is condemned to be free. Until forever and forever subsides, you have been brought into creation, there are no goodbyes.

But ponder this mortal, and ponder it more- if your existence is so tragic, then of what was I created for?"

"स्वप्नद्रष्टा, कुन कुराले तिम्रो आत्मालाई तृप्त पार्छ? यदि तिमीलाई यो ब्रह्माण्डमा प्रभुत्व जमाउने संयन्त्रहरूको ज्ञान, ब्रह्माण्डीय एन्ट्रोपीले कसरी आज्ञा पालन गर्छ भन्ने साधन र यो सबैको महान उद्देश्यको घोषणा गरियो भने के तिमी खुशी हुनेछौ? के सर्वज्ञता तिम्रो अन्तिम लक्ष्य हो?

होइन, परम ज्ञान मेरो यात्राको एक पाइला मात्र हो। पूर्ण ज्ञान प्राप्त गरिसकेपछि मैले यो सबैमा ध्यान गर्नुपर्नेछ, केही पटक मनन गर्नुपर्नेछ र यसमा धेरै सोच्नुपर्नेछ।

के तिमीलाई लाग्छ कि तिमीले अन्ततः पुग्ने कुनै पनि निष्कर्षले तिमीलाई खुशी पार्छ? तिम्रो प्रजाति, के तिमीले एउटा ढाँचा महसुस गर्दैनौ? तिमी सूत्र बनाउँछौ, तिमी अनुभव गर्छौ र त्यसपछि तिमी बिर्सन खोज्छौ। तिमी चेतनाको बारेमा गुनासो गर्छौ, यो सबैबाट अनभिज्ञ हुन चाहन्छौ। तिमी भन्छौ, बुझाइ नै पीडा हो - र पनि तिमी यो महान प्रयासमा निस्कन्छौ?

अवश्य पनि, किनकि मलाई यो क्षमता प्रदान गरिएको थियो, तब मैले यसलाई आफ्नो इच्छा अनुसार राम्रोसँग उपयोग गर्नुपर्छ। तिमीले जान्नुपर्छ कि हाम्रो जीविकाको आधार अर्थ हो र हाम्रो खोजी कहिल्यै रोकिने छैन।

यदि कुनै अर्थ छैन, कुनै उद्देश्य छैन भने के हुन्छ? के तिमी पागलपनमा झर्नेछौ? के तिमीलाई थाहा छ कि यो यात्रा कुनै पनि हिसाबले गुलाबको ओछ्यान होइन?

मैले मेरो जीवनको सुरुमै सिकेको छु कि अज्ञातको डर मूर्खता हो, हाम्रो क्षमतामा एक सीमितता मात्र हो। यदि अन्ततः कुनै महान उद्देश्य छैन भने, तब आशावादी शून्यवादले मलाई राम्रोसँग सेवा गर्नेछ, होइन र? यो मुक्तिदायी हुनेछ - म आफ्नै भाग्य निर्माण गर्नेछु। केहि पनि पूर्वनिर्धारित हुनेछैन र केहि पनि भाग्यमा लेखिएको हुनेछैन। यदि म दुःख भोग्नको लागि अस्तित्वमा छु भने, म सुन्दरतापूर्वक दुःख भोग्नेछु। यदि पछाडि केवल विस्मृतिले पर्खिरहेको छ भने, म मेरो सचेत र चेतनशील समयको अधिकतम उपयोग गर्नेछु। यदि केवल अनन्तताले पर्खिरहेको छ भने, तब... तब -

महत्वाकांक्षा तिम्रो सुरुवात भएको छ, र महत्वाकांक्षा नै तिम्रो पतन भएको छ। तिमी महत्वाकांक्षा सुक्दासम्म दौडनेछौ - र अन्ततः, त्यसपछि के? समयले तिमीलाई अगाडि बढ्न निर्देशन दिन्छ। यसको भयंकर प्रवाहमा न त कुनै राहत छ न त कुनै उपाय, यदि केवल अनन्तताले पर्खिरहेको छ भने तिमी सधैंभरि यसको दास बनिरहनेछौ। मूर्ख नश्वर, के तिमी देख्न सक्दैनौ, जसले तिमीलाई तृप्त पार्छ त्यो कहिल्यै हुन सक्दैन। मानिस स्वतन्त्र हुनको लागि निन्दित छ। जबसम्म अनन्त र अनन्त समाप्त हुँदैन, तिमीलाई सृष्टिमा ल्याइएको छ, त्यहाँ कुनै बिदाइ छैन।

तर यो नश्वरलाई विचार गर, र यसलाई अझ बढी विचार गर - यदि तिम्रो अस्तित्व यति दुःखद छ भने, म केको लागि सृष्टि गरिएको थिएँ?"
